Did You Know?

  • It is estimated that approximately 8% of the worlds population own a copy of Pink Floyd's album "Dark Side Of The Moon".
  • The founding members of Pink Floyd, Roger Waters and Nick Mason, met in 1963 while studying architecture at the London Polytechnic.

Pink Floyd were a London based rock band formed in 1965 with the 4 original members: Syd Barrett performing guitar and lead vocals, Nick Mason playing drums, Richard Wright on guitar and vocals and Roger Waters on bass guitar and vocals. Their music was known for being progressive and psychedelic accompanied by their extended compositions, philosophical lyrics and intense stage shows. The group are considered one of the most successful and influential in the history of music.

The band grew in popularity during the late 1960s by performing in London's underground music scene and their debut album was released in 1967, which achieved moderate success. Shortly after this, Syd Barrett departed the band and David Gilmour took over as the band's dominant songwriter and lyricist. After this replacement, Pink Floyd released several albums including "The Dark Side Of The Moon" in 1973 and "The Wall" in 1979 which are both among the best selling albums of all time.

In 1979, Richard Wright left the band closely followed by Roger Waters departure in 1985. However, Wright returned first as a session musician, and then became a band member once again. The three remaining musicians toured until 1994 while producing two additional albums. Waters returned in 2005 for a one-off reunion and 9 years later, the final album "The Endless River" was released. Pink Floyd have sold over 250 million record worldwide which rivals the success of other legends such as Led Zepplin and Elton John.
