Muse are an English rock band hailing from the English Riviera town of Teignmouth. There are just 3 of them in the band and they have been together since their formation in 1994 - Matt Bellamy, Chris Wolstenholme and Dominic Howard. They each played in separate school bands during early 1990s. Matt Dominic's band, Carnage Mayhem, to become the singer / songwriter. They renamed the band Gothic Plague. They asked Chris to join them but on condition that he learned to play the bass guitar - which he duly did. They change the band name to Rocket Baby Dolls.

In 1994, they won a local battle of the bands leaving a lasting impression by smashing their equipment as some sort of mis-guided protest. But to their surprise they won so started to get serious - and changed their name to Muse.
