I guess with a last name like "Gorelick" you are going to want to change it, especially if you are in the world of entertainment. Thus Kenny simply shortened that to "G" and presented the world with a catchy moniker. He became successful in 1986 with his album Duotones which started him on the road to becoming the most numerous selling instrumental musician of his time with over 75 million records.

Kenny learned the saxophone from aged 10 and formed a friendship with his classmate Robert Damper, who didn't feel the need to change his name when he started playing piano and keyboards in Kenny's band. As part of his prolific career, Kenny has recorded Chinese sings which has helped China become a very popular region for him. Many retail businesses, corporation and TV stations play his song "Going Home" before ending their activities for the day.

Kenny has created his own range of saxophones called, cunningly, Kenny G Saxophones
